2wayticket to Hong Kong -- Food hunt

3 weeks back, I was over at Hong kong for some retail/food therapy. Sure was hell of a break.
(Details of the stores can be found at the bottom of the post)

1. Capital Cafe
Address: Shop B1, G/F, Kwong Sang Hong Building,
                   6 Heard Street, Wan Chai,
                   Hong Kong

Managed to find this place after quite a long search! They are known for their Scrambled eggs, Toast, Macaroni and Ham and Milk tea. I chose to come to Capital Cafe instead of Australian Milk Company as I heard that the service there was really bad. Capital Cafe served some pretty damn good scrambled eggs! The others were pretty average to me.

You can purchase a set of Scrambled eggs, Toast, Macaroni and Ham, Tea/Coffee for just HK$32.

2. Kam Fung Cafe
Address: 41 Spring Garden Lane, Wan Chai
                   Hong Kong

When we got there, the famous Chicken pie was not ready so we decided to get a Bo Luo Bao (HK$5) and come back again later. It was nothing special though.

We came back and hour or two later, and there they were; the freshly baked Chicken pie. (HK$10) We got one to try and it was sooooooo good! It was soft and the crust was slightly sweet. The chicken cubes inside was soft and tender too! Fell in love with it!

3. Classified Cafe
Address: 31 Wing Fung Street, Wan Chai
                   Hong Kong

Stopped by Classified Cafe for a perk-me-up session and to hide from the cold weather! Had a pot of my favourite chamomile tea to myself.

One thing I notice about Hong Kong is that when restaurants are packed, you have to share seats with total strangers, and they will be perfectly fine with it. Something probably Singapore should get used to.

4. Tai Cheong Bakery
    Address: 35 Lyndhurst Terrace, Central

My favourite egg tarts of all time!!!!!!! The first time I tried this (2 years back), I fell deeply in love with it and naturally it became on the top of my list of best egg tarts. It's so soft and fluffy! There are 2 types of crust you can choose from, the flaky or normal crust. Personally, I prefer the normal crust more. No doubt this is seriously the best best best egg tart ever.

5. Random store in Argyle Centre

Saw a couple of people queuing for this, hence we decided to give it a try too! It was pretty good I must say, even though it's made out of just whip cream and peanut powder. I had just a mouthful as I don't usually take whip cream.

______

6. Street stalls nearby Kings de Nathan hotel

Super yummy! The sauce complement it really well, and you get to choose from 3 different level of spiciness. It's something like Lok Lok commonly found in Malaysia.

Another street stall just beside the 'lok lok' stall. There was a really long queue! The wind was really strong and it was so cold, so we decided to get ourselves a bowl of hot soup too.

It's something like Yong Tau Fu, you choose the ingredients and the lady will cook it on the spot. Seats were limited, but people continued to order their food. It happens when you get your food first before even finding a seat! People will just stand around to enjoy their bowl of noodles, what a strange sight!

7. One Dim Sum
Address: G/F, 18 Shell Street, North Point
                  Hong Kong

Having dim sum is a must in Hong Kong! We went to this Michelin Star Dim Sum restaurant which serves decent pricing dim sum. Their dim sum was up to standard except for a few, such as the Custard bun which really disappointed me.

There were barely any custard filling! I really love custard buns, but this was just way below standard.

The Egg roll with honey and condensed milk took some time before arriving, we thought they misplaced our orders at first! This was one of the recommended dish I saw online, however it was a tad too sweet for my liking. You get to choose if you want both honey and condensed milk or just one of it, so if you're intending to head down here I'll suggest that you'll just choose one of the topping.

The boss was really friendly too! He was shocked to see that we ordered so much food haha. Normally there will be a long queue, but luckily for us we managed to get seats within 5mins :)

8. Kam Wah Cafe
Address: G/F, 47 Bute Street, Mongkok

Tried their famous Bo Luo Bao, but found it rather average to me.

____

9. Random stall nearby Kwun Tong Mtr Station

A small store selling nothing else besides dumplings. A really good place to hide from the cold wind and munch on.

___

10. Yee Shun Milk Company
      Address: G/F, 513 Nathan Road

Tried the popular Steam milk pudding and Egg pudding. Nothing much to shout about, but the milk pudding tasted way better although it just tasted like normal hot milk. After a few mouths of the Egg pudding, it can get slightly too 'eggy'.

11. Random store along Nathan Road, nearby Yau Ma Tei MTR
      (name of the store below)

Randomly went into a stall that sells goose as we were craving for it. We wanted goose leg but they gave us another part which was mainly just bones??? So we ordered again and thank god this time round it was the leg. It was sooo delicious! (and really oily)

Enjoyed the goose leg so much I almost got a second portion for myself!

12. Hui Lao Shan
Address: Shop 3, G, 2-6, Yee Wo Street, Causeway Bay

This time round the mango desserts were really disappointing. The mangos were so sour! Such a far cry from the last time I had it. Normally it tasted much sweeter, guess it was just bad luck?

Oreo rice krisps -- Baking 101

Oreo Rice Krispies Treats

Ingredients:
3 cups Rice Krispies cereal*
10 regular oreos, crushed
4-1/2 cups mini marshmallows
3 tbsp butter

*You might want to decrease the rice krispies cereal to around 2 cups, as when I used 3 cups it was way too much.

Directions:
1. Grease your tray and set it aside. Put rice krispies treats into a large bowl.

2. Crush oreos and add it into the bowl. Stir to combine.

3. Melt the butter and marshmallows in pot on the stove. Mix well till the marshmallow have melted fully.

4. Pour the melted marshmallows over the cereal and oreos and use a spatula to quickly combine all the ingredients. *Do this quickly as the melted marshmallows cools down very quickly.*

5. As soon as all the ingredients are combined, spread the mixture into the prepared tray. Use the spatula to press the mixture around the dish, and flatten as needed.

6. Allow to cool for about 20mins before cutting into your desired shape.

7. Eat and enjoy!
