Oreo cookies -- Baking 101

Oreo Cookies
-Makes 30 cookies

Ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, at room temperature
6 tbsp sugar*
6 tbsp light brown sugar*
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla
1-1/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 salt
12 oreo's, broken into small pieces

*Note: In my case, I reduced the amount of sugar to 7 tbsp of brown sugar as I didn't want my cookies to be too sweet. It turns out just nice for me, it really depends on what you prefer.

Directions:
1. Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius. In the bowl of an electric mixer, cream together the butter and sugar till light and fluffy. (around 2-3mins)

2. Add in egg and vanilla and beat till well mixed.

3. In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda and salt.

4. With the mixer on low, slowly add in the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients till just combined. Gently pour in oreo pieces.

5. Scoop dough onto an greased tray about 1-2" apart.

6. Bake for 8 to 10 mins OR until the edges start to turn brown. Then let it cool for a few minutes.

7. Enjoy your freshly baked cookies!

Penang hawker's fare @ York hotel

And today I'll be blogging about my food experience over at the Penang Hawker's fare held at York hotel! It was so good I went back the second time within a week!

The fare is located in York hotel, which is just beside Far East Plaza. You can find the address at the bottom of the post.

So upon entering York hotel, just go pass the reception and walk in. You'll be able to see a restaurant looking area which is where the buffet is located at. You have to make payment before entering and enjoy your spread. The buffet is priced at $25.80++ for adults and $18.80++ for child below 12 on a weekday, and $28.80++ for adults and $20.80++ for child on a weekend. Lunch and dinner pricing are the same. After GST and tax, it came up to close to $30/pax for an adult.

We immediately went to survey the area and began our buffet spree! Took a bit of everything that they had to offer, which consisted of 11 stalls -- Char kuey tiao, Prawn noodle, Rojak, Laksa, Duck porridge, Kangkong, Lom bak, Ice Chendol/Kachang, Oyster omelette, Kuey tiao, Ban chang kuih.

The plus point about this buffet is that they will serve you in small portions, so you get to taste everything in the first round. So when you go for round two, you would know which dish you best prefer. Also, per pax is only allowed to take up to 2 plates at a time.

The auntie was such a cutie, she smiled for my camera. The uncle next to her was asking her to smile for my camera, and they both ended up taking a picture together haha.

All in all, my favourite dishes got to be the Oyster omelette, Prawn noodle, Ban chang kuih and Kang kong. These are the few dishes that I kept going back for more! The others were pretty up to standard too. We literally ate to our fill and left with a satisfied tummy. (and that we went back for round 2 hahaha)

I highly recommend all of you to go check this out! This fare is only till 30th of March, so hurry down now! Although I vividly remember seeing the banner outside for quite some time, but it's best not to take a risk haha. Remember to go with a empty stomach so you can really try everything!

Doong Ji Korean restaurant

Been craving for korean cuisine for the longest time, and finally here I am at Doong Ji restaurant!

They had quite an extensive menu we had to take some time to decide on what to have. After ordering our food, it took less than a minute for the staff to serve us the 'appetisers'. There are the standard korean style 'appetisers' which should be served at every korean restaurant. (Do take note that this is free of charge)

Not long later, came our Beef bibimbap, Jjajangmyeon and Kimchi pancake! Yum yum in my tum tum ^^ The Bibimbap and Jjajangmyeon a.k.a noodles in black bean sauce were really good! I kept stuffing myself with it although I wasn't very hungry. The Kimchi pancake on the other hand, wasn't really satisfying. Probably cause it was a pancake? It tasted really different from the normal Kimchi.

In total the bill came up to a total of $40+ including 2 ice coffee and 1 korean plum juice, which I felt was rather reasonable. I suggest that you come in bigger groups if you intent to try more dishes!

Supply and Demand

Loving the interior of Supply & Demand. It gives off a really relaxing vibe, with the open kitchen concept and different finishing used.

Had the Aglio Olio and Pizza for sharing. Pardon me as i can't remember the names as it was quite some time back but i'll update it once i find out!!! The Aglio Olio was really good! It was cooked in white wine sauce and to perfection! I'm not a big fan of Aglio Olio as i feel that it tends to be dry as it doesn't come with any sauce, however this particular dish proved me wrong! It wasn't dry at all, and i just kept going and it was gone within minutes!

The pizza took around 20-30 mins to reach before us. I could it was worth the wait! Well just look at the yolk in the middle of the pizza! Yuuumm. Supply and Demand's pizza are all thin crust and you could choose between a regular or large portion (if i didn't remember wrongly!)

Supply and Demand also has the bar area at the second level. I heard that the view is magnificent, as it is facing the river! Would love to go check it soon, do share with me your experience if you've been there before!

Address: Outside of Esplanade Mall, along the river.

Operating hours: Monday to Thursday: 11.30am to 10.30pm
Friday to Saturday: 6pm to 3am

Chinatown food trail

Just outside of Chinatown mrt (infont of People's Park Complex), there are many stalls selling a variety of food that can't be found elsewhere. I decided to try some of it since I was heading down to that area!

One of the stalls that I went to was this bakery shop as I was having a really bad craving for good egg tarts.

Everything look so yummy! However with limited space in our tummies we bought only the Egg tart ($1) and Char Siew pastry ($1).

Next, was this stall that sells something like a pancake? I heard that it was a favourite snack in China, unsure if it is true though. They had the original ($1) and flavoured ones ($1.50), and we decided to go with the original flavour!

There were many other stalls as well, selling all sorts of weird food....

We got ourselves a Duck leg ($4) from this stall too!

And also a Durian pancake ($1.50) as our dessert hehe

Before indulging in all of our 'snack', we went to have traditional desserts first! This is located on the side of Chinatown towards the foodstreet area.

>

It was pretty crowded when we got there!

After deliberating whether to get a hot or cold dessert, I decided to go with Tang yuan ($2.50) and the boyfriend got himself the Sesame Paste ($3).

I really love how soft and chewy my Tang yuan was!!! And also the peanut paste inside of it (I only take peanut cos' I really dislike the taste of sesame :/) Absolutely recommend this to all of you, although it might be a little pricey as there were only 4 Tang yuans.

I tried the Sesame paste too and didn't like it at all, but this depends on personal preference! The boyfriend was happily enjoying it, so i guess for those who like sesame might enjoy it too.

And finally for our last stop, we went to the food street to indulge in our snacks bought earlier on!

There were many famous food stalls here, which probably explains the crowd.

>

Got ourselves Stingray ($12) from Boon Tat Street BBQ Seafood stall and it was pretty good! One side was really 'meaty' and it would be even better if they gave more chilli!

What a glutton we were that day! We came to a conclusion that we shouldn't do this the next time though, the mixture of all kinds of food somehow killed our appetite a little :/ It was still worth the shot, we managed to try so many different delicacies!
